WALDEN CABIN AT KING’S LODGE ON LAKE WILIPYRO IN DRUMMOND, WISCONSIN
The Tapper family, who had a summer estate on Lake Wilipyro near Cable, WI, built this 3 bedroom cottage in the early 30’s for their caretaker. The 80 yr. old cabin has aged gracefully over its years – first as the caretaker’s home, then as a resort rental cabin and now as Walden, a privately owned condominium, at King’s Lodge. Walden was restored to its former beautiful days when Bill King purchased the Buckhorn Lodge on Lake Wilipyro in 1996. The resort, aptly re-named King’s Lodge, had 6 cabins and a chalet home/office, and all the cabins needed face lifts and restoration. Walden was renovated in 1996 – 1997.
The 750 sq. ft. cabin has retained its original interior wood trim – refinished to show off its rich, dark patina. The original wood floors remain in 2 of the bedrooms and in the living areas. The kitchen is small and holds an LP stove, refrigerator and sink with counter and cabinet space. The bath has been remodeled and is charming with a pedestal sink and corner shower.
Walden’s yard is lovely – tall pines and lake views. There is a storage-garden shed set off in a corner near the cabin’s back door.
King’s Lodge became a condo association in 1999 when the cabins and chalet were all sold to private parties. Like King’s Lodge resort, the condo association adopted protective covenants for Silent Sports. That means there are no jet skis, and ATVs are not allowed to operate on the grounds. Condo fees are $60/month and include garbage service, plowing and some lawn maintenance.
Condo owners share 8.6 wooded acres and 950 ft. of mostly west-facing frontage. There is a beautiful sand beach for all to enjoy and heavenly swimming in the clear lake water. Fishing is good – clean your catch in the screened fish cleaning house. In winter or on chilly spring and fall days, enjoy use of the wood-fired sauna.
Located 4 miles from Cable – Walden is in a quiet neighborhood often used for biking and roller ski training. If this cabin set sounds right for you and your family – contact us to see it in person.
