In 1847, before Wisconsin achieved Statehood, a pioneer family built a log barn on their homestead west of Wausau in the central region of the Wisconsin Territory.  In 1999 the logs from that barn were salvaged, moved and restored to construct this beautiful log home way up north in Iron River, WI.  The hand-hewn oak logs are notched on the ends to give the classic boxed corner of German log construction. Historical restoration is something we applaud at King Realty – authenticity can be copied, but it can never be replaced.

A covered porch welcomes you to the open interior of this 2,050 sq. ft. home with two bedrooms and 2.5 baths.  On the main level you will find a 26×16 kitchen/dining area and a 26×16 living room.  The kitchen has tile counters and a prep area with a lunch bar.  The living room features a gas log wood stove.  A sun room with sky lights opens off the living room to the south. These rooms all have tile floors, covered beams and wood ceilings.  French doors to the 16×16 master bedroom suite open from the living room.  A Douglas fir floor warms the ambiance of this private sleeping space.  The master bath features a tile and glass block walk-in shower with European spa fixtures.  The main floor laundry with half bath completes the first level.

A floating, open, wood stairway leads up to the ½ story loft.  The 30 ft. wide loft is built above the rafters, overlooks the living room and is enclosed by a custom iron railing.  It has a wood floor and sky lights that provide lots of natural light.  The loft is divided into a 15×15 enclosed bedroom with a full bath and a 16×14 bonus area.  The bonus room would make a great office, especially since this home has fiber optics wired for wi-fi.

Built on a poured foundation, the home’s full, walk-out basement is clean as a whistle.  While this space is unfinished, the floor has in-floor heat and could be finished to add another 858 sq. ft. of living space. The basement also reveals the home wiring for an emergency generator – a fine safety feature for a rural setting.

Then there are the outbuildings that offer tons of storage.  The 30×52 building is divided into 3 separate spaces:  heated guest quarters with a bath, kitchenette and studio living room/bedroom; a 29×22 heated workshop; and a one-car garage.  The 30×54 garage features a 14 ft. over-sized door.  Here is where you can store your RV or seaworthy boat for navigating Lake Superior.  This building also has room for 4 cars, snowmobiles, bikes, tractors, tools, plows – just about anything you’d need up north for work and play!

And don’t forget the land!  27 acres surround this charming log home.  The acreage is wooded and open.  This is a sandy loam area, so most of the trees are pines and oak.  There are some trails, and you can certainly expand on them.  Hunting for grouse and deer looks promising here, too.

If you are interested in log homes and living in the north woods, consider this unique, finely hand-crafted home in Iron River.  You know – the real beauty of a hand-crafted log home is that it sets us aside as Americans with a link to our past and our heritage.
