Sears Mail-Order Homes were catalog kit houses sold through mail order by Sears, Roebuck and Company between 1908 and 1940. The catalog homes offered modern technology to house buyers in the early to mid 20th Century. These conveniences included indoor plumbing, electricity and central heating systems.

The kits were usually transported by railroad boxcars. Most of the building materials were included in the kits, and folks would gather together to help neighbors build their new home – just like an old fashion barn-raising.

Take a look at this lovely Sears Mail Order Home in Seeley! The vintage 1930’s 4 bedroom home has been beautifully maintained with original trim work and wood floors throughout. There are 2 baths – a full bath on the 2nd level and a half bath on the main level. The spacious 16×14 kitchen features a brick oven hearth and plenty of counter space. There is a formal dining room, a living room with a gas-log fireplace (can be converted to a wood burning fireplace), a main floor bedroom, a main floor office, main floor washer-dryer hook-ups and a beautiful 16×10 covered porch entry. Recent updates include a new well and a new roof in 2018.

The property’s setting matches the beauty of the home. Tall, sturdy white pines shade parts of the level 2-acre yard. The Namekagon National Scenic Riverway runs behind the home. Walking access to the river is there, but you will need to clear out the old path in place. Silverthorn Park is next door where you will find a great swimming beach, picnic area and ball park. And – if you cross country ski and mountain bike, the home is only a half mile from the Seeley Hills Ski & Fat Bike Trails and just a 3 minute drive to the Birkie Trail Head on Hwy OO.
